Collaborative Working with Justice Involved Clients
A Values Based Approach
Justice-involved clients usually have more complex presentations, involving trauma histories, multiple mental health needs including personality challenges and the involvement of multiple agencies in their care and supervision. Additionally, our work is embedded within a broader system and therefore involves engagement of other elements within that system. This includes (most crucially) the client but may often extend to a broader network of colleagues, other services, carers and support persons, and others. In this short course we outline a practical values-based model for engagement of stakeholders, with special emphasis on collaborative working with clients.
This 3 hour course will assist in demystifying the criminal justice system and in supporting improved, collaborative relationships with both clients and the services that support them. Using the acronym S.H.A.R.E. this training will enhance your knowledge and contribute to improved process and skills, in supporting outcomes for people caught up in the criminal justice system.
You will learn:
A key component of working with justice involved clients is awareness to the role of values and their relationship to risk decision making and effective collaborative work.
Unsurprisingly risk and safety considerations will intersect with this training and in your work. For further training in areas of risk assessment and enhancing safety go to our dedicated program Responding to Risk, Co-creating Safety.
